Makerbase MKS LS ESP32 PRO GRBL Controller Laser&CNC Support WIFI Bluetooth Touch Screen Upgrade DLC32 for engraving machine
Overview
The Makerbase MKS LS ESP32 PRO is a next-generation control board for diode laser engravers and light-duty CNC machines. It’s built on the ESP32 dual-core MCU, offering fast processing, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and compatibility with GRBL-ESP32 firmware. Compared to older DLC32 boards, it provides more integrated safety features, higher speed handling, and support for optional offline touch-screen operation.
It’s designed as a drop-in upgrade for hobby laser engravers and small CNCs, especially those using NEMA17 motors, while adding features like remote job control, safety interlocks, and smoother motion.

Features & Benefits
- Wireless control: Operate via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth without needing a tethered PC.
- Quiet, precise motion: TMC2209 drivers reduce noise and increase step smoothness.
- Safety-focused: Inputs for fire detection, tilt, and door protection add a layer of reliability.
- Broad compatibility: Works with LightBurn, LaserGRBL, and other GRBL-based software.
- Compact design: Integrated drivers simplify wiring and reduce footprint.
- Touchscreen upgrade option: Allows fully offline operation, job previewing, and parameter adjustment.
Use Cases
- Diode Laser Engraving Machines: Perfect for users upgrading low-cost DIY or branded diode engravers to gain wireless control and better safety.
- Light CNC Applications: Suitable for small CNC routers, pen plotters, or drag-knife cutters that don’t require high-current steppers.
- Educational & Maker Projects: Combines modern features with ease of use for labs, classrooms, and hobbyist workshops.
Pros
- ESP32 speed with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth networking
- Integrated TMC2209 drivers = quiet and smooth motion
- Safety inputs uncommon at this price point
- Direct compatibility with LightBurn and GRBL tools
- Expandable with touchscreen for offline jobs
Limitations
- Stepper driver current capped at ~1.5 A → not ideal for larger NEMA23 motors
- Documentation can be fragmented; firmware setup may require tinkering
- "50 W" rating seen in listings is about controller handling, not laser optical output
