This Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller board is based on the powerful ATmega328P and has been upgraded with an enhanced chip for improved performance and reliability. It offers 14 digital input/output pins (6 with PWM capability), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, USB connection, power jack, ICSP header, and reset button.

About the Upgraded Chip
The name says it all—this board features an ATmega328 in a DIP package, pre-loaded with the Arduino Optiboot (Uno 16 MHz) bootloader. This upgrade allows you to run Arduino code in your own custom embedded projects without needing an entire Arduino board.

To use this chip independently with the Arduino IDE, you’ll need an external 16 MHz crystal or resonator, a 5V power supply, and a serial connection. If you’re not comfortable setting this up, we recommend using it as part of the UNO board itself, which has all of these components built in.

Atmel’s ATmega328 is an 8-bit processor in a 28-pin DIP package—similar to the ATmega168 but with double the flash space. It offers 32K of program memory, 23 I/O lines (6 of which are 10-bit ADC channels), and can run up to 20 MHz with an external crystal. It supports in-circuit programming and has an operating voltage range of 1.8V to 5V.

Note: This chip contains the bootloader used on the Arduino Uno, with small modifications for more reliable operation with different serial connection options, especially FTDI-based adapters.
